Cytoplasm

The living interior where cell structures sit and much of the cell’s chemistry takes place.

What it is

The cytoplasm is the material inside the cell membrane but outside the nucleus. It includes the fluid called cytosol, along with organelles and other structures.

Why it matters

This internal environment allows molecules to move and interact. Many reactions that process nutrients and help maintain the cell take place here.
